Etching
Etching & intaglio inks, tools, etching solutions and copper, aluminium and plastic etching plates.
Etching is the process by which lines or textures are etched into a metal plate with a variety of chemicals or by direct drpoint scratching and scraping. The metal plate is first covered with an acid-resistant ground. The ground is then scratched through to expose the metal. The plate is then placed in an acid solution until the desired depth and width in the exposed areas is reached. Ink is then applied and wiped back until is sits primarily in the etched areas (remaining ink in non etched areas is referred to as plate tone).
